Tyrese Haliburton Gives Injury Update on Return Timeline, Status for Pacers Minicamp in Video
After missing all of the 2025-26 campaign with a torn Achilles, Indiana Pacers star Tyrese Haliburton gave a positive update on his recovery.
Haliburton said on the Pat McAfee Show that his shingles diagnosis initially slowed him down, but he's now getting back to his typical form.
"I just started playing five-on-five again as the summer's going on," Haliburton said. "We've got a little team minicamp coming up here, and I'll be full go for that. It sucked for a little bit, but I'm good now."
Haliburton suffered the devastating injury in Game 7 of last year's Finals against the Oklahoma City Thunder. The Pacers struggled without their star, finishing the year 19-63, their worst record in franchise history.
Amid his recovery from the torn Achilles, Haliburton was diagnosed with facial shingles. He explained on the Pat McAfee Show last month that the combination of medications he was on led to rapid weight gain.
"I'm going on eight weeks of face shingles right now and haven't been able to get rid of it," he said. "I've switched meds like three times and I got a Botox injection. None of it has helped. And [one of the side effects] of the new meds is that I'm always hungry, and weight gain. So it's making me gain weight."
Haliburton added that he had previously managed to put on muscle while rehabbing, but being diagnosed with shingles set him back some.
In his last healthy season in 2024-25, Haliburton put up 18.6 points and 9.2 rebounds per game. He put together one of the most memorable postseason runs in recent memory last year, hitting clutch shot after clutch shot while leading the Pacers to an unexpected Finals run.
Haliburton was at his best this time a year ago, but an unfortunate injury set him back. He'll look to finish out his rehab strong before returning to the court in the fall.
