Tuesday Highlights
Knicks 108, 76ers 102
It was easy to assume Wednesday's Eastern Conference contest would be a blowout after the Knicks won Game 1 by 39 points and when Joel Embiid was ruled out with ankle and hip injuries.
Yet that was anything but the case as Philadelphia and New York went back and forth throughout a heated battled until the Knicks finally created just enough breathing room in the closing minutes of a 108-102 victory.
The game was tied at 99 with fewer than six minutes remaining when Jalen Brunson scored the next four points before Mikal Bridges drilled a step-back jumper.
The home team never looked back from there and put the game away with strong defense and clutch free-throw shooting.
Brunson led the way like he so often does with 26 points and six assists, while Karl-Anthony Towns notched a double-double of 20 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists.
OG Anunoby added 24 points in support.
Tyrese Maxey did what he could for the visitors without Embiid and finished with 26 points and six assists, but it was the Knicks who made the biggest plays with the game on the line.
Spurs 133, Timberwolves 95
All the pressure was on the Spurs for Wednesday's contest after they already lost home-court advantage with their Game 1 defeat.
It's safe to say they delivered.
San Antonio cruised to a 133-95 victory over the Timberwolves to tie the series at a game apiece. The outcome was never in doubt as the home team dominated on both ends of the floor and created early garbage time with its overall effort.
All five starters scored in double figures, and Victor Wembanyama led the way with a double-double of 19 points, 15 rebounds and two blocks. Stephon Castle added 21 points in support, while Keldon Johnson provided nine points and 10 rebounds as a spark off the bench.
Minnesota never found its footing while the game was still hanging in the balance. Anthony Edwards came off the bench and finished with 12 points, but even a vintage performance from the star wing wouldn't have been enough to counter the Spurs on Wednesday.
Technically, the Timberwolves are in solid position in the series still after earning a split on the road in the first two contests. If they can take care of business at home, they will advance to the Western Conference Finals regardless of what happens during the games in San Antonio.
But the blowout nature of Wednesday's game makes it feel like the Spurs have all the momentum heading into Friday's Game 3.
