Latest Lakers Rumors on Collin Sexton's Contract After Kessler Trade and Grimes, Sandro Deals
The Los Angeles Lakers reportedly added combo guard Collin Sexton on Wednesday amid a flurry of deals.
According to ESPN's Shams Charania, the Lakers and Sexton agreed to a two-year, $19 million contract in free agency.
Charania also reported that the Lakers acquired center Walker Kessler in a sign-and-trade deal with the Utah Jazz, and signed both guard Quentin Grimes and center Sandro Mamukelashvili in free agency.
All those moves came one day after LeBron James' agent, Rich Paul, told Charania that James informed the Lakers he would be playing elsewhere in 2026-27.
Sexton opened last year on the Charlotte Hornets, but he was traded to the Chicago Bulls in a Feb. 4 swap that was headlined by guard Coby White getting dealt to Charlotte.
Sexton averaged 15.4 points, 3.3 assists, 2.3 rebounds and 1.1 steals per game across 68 combined appearances with both teams.
While the Bulls struggled down the stretch of their 2025-26 campaign and finished with a mere 31-51 record, Sexton was particularly productive to close out the year.
He averaged 17.5 points, 2.9 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.5 steals per game following the trade. Sexton also shot 48.2 percent from the field and 41.0 percent from three-point territory with Chicago.
The 27-year-old has showcased his defensive activity and individual scoring prowess throughout his eight seasons in the NBA, owning career averages of 18.3 points and 3.6 assists per game on 47.2/38.9/84.1 shooting splits.
As the Lakers reshape their team around Luka Dončić and Austin Reaves, Sexton and Grimes should provide some solid depth in the backcourt.
