Najee Harris, Giants Reportedly Agree to Contract, Updated Depth Chart Behind Cam Skattebo
Running back Najee Harris will look to make his comeback from last fall's season-ending Achilles injury with the New York Giants.
Harris and the Giants agreed to a one-year deal on Tuesday, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo.
Harris also reportedly visited with the Seattle Seahawks and Las Vegas Raiders in free agency.
This news comes one day after the team waived/injured running back Dante Miller.
Here's a look at the updated depth chart:
- Cam Skattebo
- Tyrone Tracy Jr.
- Devin Singletary
- Najee Harris
- Eric Gray
- Damon Bankston
Last offseason, Harris signed a one-year, $5.25 million contract worth up to $9.25 million with incentives with the Los Angeles Chargers.
He didn't get a chance to hit any of those incentives before he went down with a season-ending torn Achilles on Sept. 21 during a Week 3 matchup with the Denver Broncos.
The Achilles tear marked the first major NFL injury for Harris, who had started 68 straight regular-season games and three postseason matchups over four seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
The Steelers ultimately decided to let Harris walk after the expiration of his rookie contract, setting up the running back to sign what he hoped would be a one-year prove-it deal in Los Angeles.
The Chargers seemingly moved on from Harris this offseason by signing Keaton Mitchell to join Omarion Hampton and Kimani Vidal in the backfield.
Harris will now look to take another shot at earning his next major contract once he is able to return from injury by building on his consistent success with the Steelers.
The former Steelers cornerback topped 1,000 rushing yards in each of his first four NFL campaigns, including a 2021 rookie season during which he earned a Pro Bowl nod while racking up a career-high 1,200 yards on the ground.
