JR Smith Knocked Down by Knicks Fans in Wild Celebration on Video Outside MSG After Win vs. 76ers
Amid a raucous celebration following the New York Knicks' 137-98 thrashing of the Philadelphia 76ers in Game 1 of their second-round playoff series on Monday night, former Knicks guard JR Smith got swept up in the chaos.
While rejoicing with Knicks fans outside Madison Square Garden in New York City, Smith got knocked to the ground at one point, and could be seen telling those around him to "relax" once he got back to his feet:
Smith spent parts of four seasons with the Knicks from 2011 to 2015 before getting traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers.
The now-40-year-old enjoyed the most productive stretch of his 16-year NBA career in New York, averaging 15.1 points, 4.3 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 2.1 three-pointers made in 213 games with the franchise.
Although Smith went on to win NBA championships with the Cavs in 2016 and Los Angeles Lakers in 2020, he never came close to contending for one as a member of the Knicks.
However, the Knicks may be the best bet to represent the Eastern Conference in the NBA Finals this season given their current play and the fact that they reached the Eastern Conference Finals last season.
The Knicks have arguably played their best basketball of the season the past two games, as they closed out the Atlanta Hawks in Game 6 of the first round by a 140-89 score before Monday's drubbing of the Sixers.
Since the Knicks have not reached the Finals since 1999 or won a championship since 1973, that perhaps explains the excitability among fans that Smith was swept up by on Monday night.
