Pat Riley Jokes He'd Only Trade Bam Adebayo for Wild Price Featuring Wemby and 8 NBA Draft Picks

If you're an NBA general manager and you want to acquire Bam Adebayo, the Miami Heat center can be yours for the low, low price of the biggest trade cost in history.

Speaking with reporters Monday, Heat president Pat Riley said Adebayo is the centerpiece of the organization's future. He added that he'd only weigh a trade if he could get Victor Wembanyama and eight draft picks:

Adebayo isn't necessarily a paradigm-shifting talent. He averaged 20.1 points and 10.0 rebounds this year.

While a very good center, Miami's fortunes the past two seasons are a good indicator of how far the team can go with him as the top guy. The Heat had a losing record last year and then couldn't make it out of the play-in tournament this year.

But Riley isn't wrong to take such a firm stance.

Adebayo is a homegrown talent who has shown he can be a valuable contributor to a title contender. He logged heavy minutes when Miami reached the NBA Finals in 2020 and 2023.

The 28-year-old is also a team leader who embodies "Heat Culture." He's not easily replaceable, even if the Heat somehow secured a massive return in a trade.

The franchise unquestionably needs an injection of talent. Perhaps a deal for the Milwaukee Bucks' Giannis Antetokounmpo will be in play this summer.

Whatever scenario presents itself to Miami, rest assured that Adebayo won't be involved.
