Travis Hunter's WR-CB Usage Clarified by Adam Schefter After Jaguars Star's Comments
After Travis Hunter questioned reports about him playing primarily at cornerback instead of wide receiver in 2026, ESPN's Adam Schefter offered up some more context.
Schefter explained what the Jacksonville Jaguars two-way star's role might look like this year.
"I don't think he's gonna play less wide receiver, but he's gonna play a lot more at cornerback," Schefter said on the Pat McAfee Show on Monday.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported Sunday that the Jaguars "expect him to be a full-time corner, part-time receiver" in 2026, and Hunter responded on social media.
Hunter spent most of his time on the field at wide receiver last year, logging 324 snaps on offense compared to 162 snaps on defense. Schefter explained that while he'll still get some snaps on offense, the Jaguars will need him more on defense after Greg Newsome II signed with the New York Giants this offseason.
"It's the middle of April, and there's a lot of ways this can go," Schefter said (6:24 mark). "Here's the way I expect it to go right now: He is going to have his snaps at cornerback spike this year... He's still going to play offense, too. The difference this year is just that they lost Greg Newsome in free agency to the New York Giants... The plans are to use him at wide receiver again, just the way they did last year, and to have his snaps spike at the cornerback position next year."
Schefter also explained that the Jags could find a cornerback in the draft, which would, in theory, allow Hunter to maintain his role on offense.
Hunter recorded 28 receptions for 298 yards and a touchdown in seven games in 2025. On defense, he picked up 15 tackles and three passes defended.
The former No. 2 overall pick hoped to have a bit more success as a rookie, but it seems like he'll get plenty of opportunities to improve in 2026, at least on the defensive side of things.
