Harrison Smith, Vikings Agree to New Contract, Full Details Revealed in New NFL Rumors

The Minnesota Vikings brought back a familiar face on Saturday.

According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the Vikings signed veteran safety Harrison Smith to a one-year contract worth $12.25 million.

The deal can be worth up to $16.25 million with playoff incentives, per Rapoport.

Smith has spent all 14 seasons of his NFL career in Minnesota from 2012-25, but became a free agent after last year came to a close.

While he remained available in free agency as training camp commenced, Vikings head coach Kevin O'Connell previously confirmed that he was still in contact with Smith.

"I've had my kind of weekly, you know, dialogues and discussions with him that have ranged to a lot of different topics," O'Connell said on Aug. 26, via Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk. "But yeah, we've been in — I've talked to him as, you know, I've talked to him this week, and kind of just continuing to, in addition to all those other fun things to talk about, have some conversations about where he's at, and what he's thinking, and we'll keep you guys updated if there is an update on that."

Smith appeared in 15 games with Minnesota during the 2025 season, including 12 starts. He amassed 54 tackles, 10 passes defended, three tackles for loss and two interceptions.

The 37-year-old allowed an 81.0 passer rating when targeted, according to Pro Football Focus.

Smith has been an important piece of the Vikings' secondary since he was selected with a first-round pick in the 2012 NFL draft, racking up six Pro Bowl nods during his tenure with the team.

His 859 solo tackles are the most in franchise history, while his 39 interceptions rank No. 4 on the team's all-time leaderboard.

The Vikings will open their 2026 campaign against the Green Bay Packers on Sept. 13. Kickoff is at 4:25 p.m. ET.
