Travis Hunter Questions Rumor on WR-CB Usage for Jaguars' Season in Response to Trending Video
Indications were that the Jacksonville Jaguars would use Travis Hunter primarily as a cornerback instead of a wide receiver during the upcoming season.
But maybe that won't be the case.
After NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported the Jaguars "expect him to be a full-time corner, part-time receiver," the second-year player took to social media and questioned the source of the information:

Hunter was one of the biggest mysteries in the league going into the 2025 season.
After all, he won the Heisman Trophy at Colorado in large part because of his ability to excel as both a wide receiver and cornerback. The Jaguars then traded up to take him with the No. 2 overall pick of the 2025 draft, and it was easy to assume that was because they valued his ability to play multiple key positions on the roster.
And the team did use him in multiple ways as a rookie, although he was more of an offensive player than anything else.
According to Pro Football Reference, Hunter played 489 snaps during his rookie season with 324 of them coming on offense, 162 coming on defense and three of them coming on special teams.
Yet a knee injury limited him to just seven games during his rookie season. Jacksonville responded by trading for Jakobi Meyers to bolster the aerial attack, and it ended up winning the AFC South with a 13-4 record.
With Brian Thomas Jr., Meyers and Parker Washington at wide receiver, there is less need for Hunter to be used on the offensive side of the ball in 2026. He would be far more valuable to the team as someone who can limit opposing receivers as a lockdown cornerback.
Given that as the backdrop, the report suggesting the team plans to use him as a full-time cornerback makes sense. He can still be a gadget player on offense who can cause matchup problems for opposing secondaries, but focusing on one side of the ball could be the surest way for him to live up to the expectations that were put in place when he was drafted.
But Hunter's response to the report at least adds another layer to the speculation with the season still months away.
