Anthony Davis 'Healing on Schedule' Amid Injury Rehab, Latest News on Wizards Star's Status
Washington Wizards star Anthony Davis has been cleared for light contact amid rehab from ligament damage in his left hand, the team announced Tuesday.
Davis "continues to progress as expected and is healing on schedule."
Davis has been sidelined with a groin injury and ligament damage in his left hand since January.
He last saw NBA action on Jan. 8 for the Dallas Mavericks, about a month before he was traded to the Wizards on Feb. 4.
Following multiple reports that Davis was expected to be shut down for the season, general manager Will Dawkins said on Feb. 8 the Wizards were still hoping to see him play.
If Davis does return this season, however, it would be for no more than seven games. The Wizards already announced on March 20 that Davis would be re-evaluated at the end of the month.
According to the March 20 update, a medical evaluation of Davis' left hand revealed that his "recovery continues to progress positively, but the volar plate tissue in his left hand has not fully healed."
The Wizards added that Davis was expected to "continue with conservative treatment and advance his basketball activity as tolerated."
Injuries were an issue for Davis throughout his yearlong tenure with the Mavs. He made just nine appearances for the franchise after his February 2025 trade from the Lakers due to a left adductor strain and an eye injury, then missed 30 games the following season prior to being dealt to the Wizards.
Previous reports indicated that Davis, who is signed through the 2026-27 season with a cap hit of $58.5 million and a player option for the following campaign, wanted to sign an extension after his trade from the Mavs.
How Davis is able to recover from his injuries down the stretch could potentially play a role in what the Wizards ultimately decide to do with his contract this offseason.
