Oregon's Jett Washington Will Wear Uncle Kobe Bryant's Uniform Number, Shares Photo of CFB Jersey

Jett Washington, the nephew of Kobe Bryant, is going to wear his uncle's number when he suits up for Oregon's football team in the fall.

In an Instagram Story released on Thursday, Washington announced he will don jersey No. 24 during his freshman year for the Ducks.

It has not been specified if Washington picked the number to honor Bryant, though he has used No. 24 before in his athletic career.

The Athletic's Manny Navarro noted in June 2024 that Washington wore the number for Lo-Pro in the OT7 Championships.

Jerrod Washington, Jett's father, told Navarro that Jett and Kobe had a close relationship:

"Jett was Kobe's guy. Remember, he had four girls. Kobe used to tell me, 'I need him every summer to come work with me.' He would give Jett words of wisdom. Anytime Jett would play in something, he'd send his uncle a clip and Kobe would make a comment. Kobe would send him back emojis or tell him to make this adjustment or that adjustment. They were close."

Washington's mother, Sharia Bryant Washington, is Kobe's sister. She was also an athlete in her own right, having played volleyball while attending Temple.

Bryant wore No. 24 for the final 10 seasons of his NBA career after donning No. 8 for his first 10 seasons. The Lakers retired both of his numbers in December 2017, making him the first player in NBA history to have multiple numbers retired by the same franchise.

Washington committed to Oregon in June 2025. He is a 4-star prospect and No. 39 overall player in the 2026 recruiting class, per 247Sports' composite rankings.
