Jon Sumrall Explains Why Florida Players Have to 'Earn' Right to Wear Logo on Their Uniforms
Florida head coach Jon Sumrall says his players aren't working out in Gators gear this offseason because they haven't yet "earned" the right to represent the program's logo.
"We haven't earned a damn thing. All we've got is our name," Sumrall said earlier this week (h/t Gators Online's Zach Abolverdi).
Sumrall continued, "To wear the Florida Gators logo, to wear the Gators across your helmet in script, or to wear the gator head? You've got to earn that."
When asked how players could earn the logo, Sumrall said, "I haven't thought about that yet."
Sumrall, who spent the last two seasons as head coach at Tulane, signed a six-year deal to replace Billy Napier at Florida last April.
He will now be tasked with helping lead the Gators back toward College Football Playoff contention after a disappointing 4-8 finish to the 2025 season.
That push will be bolstered by five returning star players. Sumrall has successfully convinced running back Jadan Baugh, receiver Vernell Brown III, receiver Dallas Wilson, linebacker Myles Graham and edge rusher Jayden Woods to return to Gainesville next season.
