Sacramento's interest in Hunter was evident prior to the swap, with HoopsHype's Michael Scotto reporting Saturday that the Cavs and Kings previously discussed a trade involving the 28-year-old.
Hunter was in the midst of his first full season in Cleveland, as the team acquired him in a swap with the Atlanta Hawks in Feb. 2025.
The Hawks initially selected the former Virginia standout with the No. 4 overall pick in the 2019 NBA draft.
While Hunter was limited by injuries throughout his tenure in Atlanta, he still showed that he can be a capable wing scorer with the ability to space the floor.
He averaged 14.8 points, 4.1 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game while shooting 44.9 percent from the field and 36.8 percent from three-point territory as a member of the Hawks.
Although Hunter shot 42.6 percent from behind the arc with the Cavaliers to close out the 2024-25 season, he hasn't been as efficient during his 2025-26 campaign.
This season, he's recording 14.0 points and 4.2 rebounds to go along with 2.1 assists per game. Hunter has connected on 42.3 percent of his field goals and 30.8 percent of his triples.
He has one full season remaining on his contract after this year, as he'll carry a $24.9 million cap hit for the 2026-27 season (via Spotrac).
The Kings will hope that he's able to find some more consistency from behind the arc while building chemistry with their veteran group headlined by Domantas Sabonis, DeMar DeRozan and Zach LaVine following a change of scenery
Sacramento currently sits at No. 15 in the Western Conference standings with a 12-38 record.
