Andrew PetersJan 31, 2026

A handful of role players could be on the move before next week's NBA trade deadline.

According to HoopsHype's Michael Scotto, the Cleveland Cavaliers' De'Andre Hunter and Lonzo Ball are "potential trade candidates," and Scotto added that the Washington Wizards "are among teams that have checked in on Ball."

Ball, who is in his first season with the Cavs, is putting up 4.6 points, 4.0 rebounds and 3.9 assists while playing 20.9 minutes per contest. Hunter is averaging 14 points in 26.2 minutes per game.

According to Scotto, Sacramento could be the landing spot for Hunter, as the Kings and Cavs "have discussed a framework that would send" Hunter to Sacramento in return for Keon Ellis, Dennis Schroeder, and Dario Saric. Scotto added that Saric could land on a third team, and there could be a second-round pick involved in the deal.

Additionally, the Cavs and Kings have discussed a deal that would send Malik Monk and Ellis to Cleveland in return for Hunter, but the Cavaliers were hesitant on that trade because of Monk's pricey contract, according to Scotto.

Later on Saturday, NBA insiders Marc Stein and Jake Fischer reported the Kings are "sifting through a variety" of trade scenarios involving Ellis, with the Los Angeles Lakers, Indiana Pacers, San Antonio Spurs and Boston Celtics linked.

The second landing spot Scotto mentioned for Hunter was the Lakers in a deal involving Rui Hachimura and Dalton Knecht.

Scotto also reported that the Phoenix Suns "have checked in on" the Spurs' Jeremy Sochan. Suns center Nick Richards was discussed in a potential trade for Sochan as Phoenix looks to add depth at power forward.

Sochan has played a limited role in San Antonio this year, averaging just 13.1 minutes per game and putting up just 4.2 points.
