Arthur Smith Reportedly Expected to Land OSU OC Contract amid Eagles, Titans Rumors
Former Pittsburgh Steelers offensive coordinator Arthur Smith is expected to become Ohio State's next offensive coordinator, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
Smith was having conversations with the Philadelphia Eagles and Tennessee Titans regarding their respective offensive coordinator positions before joining the Buckeyes, per Dianna Russini of The Athletic.
He was previously linked to the Arizona Cardinals, Detroit Lions and Los Angeles Chargers as well.
Smith served as Pittsburgh's offensive coordinator from 2024-25, but will be experiencing a change of scenery after Mike Tomlin stepped down as head coach of the Steelers on Jan. 13.
Pittsburgh ranked No. 16 and No. 15 in scoring offense among all teams during its 2024 and 2025 seasons under Smith, respectively.
He previously operated as head coach of the Atlanta Falcons from 2021-23, compiling a 21-30 record with the team.
Smith brings plenty of NFL experience to his new job, as he's coached at the professional level in every season since 2011.
He'll take over a Buckeyes offense that looked sharp in 2025, ranking No. 5 in the Big Ten by averaging 33.4 points per game.
Ohio State didn't end its season on a high note, though. The Buckeyes mustered just 10 points in a loss to Indiana in the Big Ten Championship Game before falling to Miami during a College Football Playoff quarterfinal clash.
Still, the Buckeyes will be bringing back several key contributors on offense including quarterback Julian Sayin, wide receiver Jeremiah Smith and running back Bo Jackson.
Ohio State is also heading into the 2026 season with the No. 4 transfer class in the country, per 247Sports.
As the Buckeyes look to go on a deeper playoff run after capturing a national title in 2024, Smith will now take over the offense of head coach Ryan Day's squad.
