Darryn Peterson Injury Update, Timeline for Kansas Star Ahead of Kansas St. Game
Kansas star freshman shooting guard Darryn Peterson will not play in the No. 19 Jayhawks' road game at rival Kansas State on Saturday evening due to an ankle injury, head coach Bill Self told Jeff Goodman of the Field of 68.
Peterson is slated to go first overall in Bleacher Report's latest 2026 NBA mock draft from Jonathan Wasserman.

Peterson has been sensational this year, averaging a team-high 21.6 points on 49.3 percent shooting (42.0 percent from three) in 27.2 minutes per game. Unfortunately, injuries will have sidelined Peterson for 10 of Kansas' 20 games when accounting for Saturday's tilt against Kansas St.
Last Tuesday, Peterson rolled his ankle during his team's 75-69 road win at Colorado. He finished the game and posted 16 points and six rebounds in 31 minutes.
Self said the injury was a "pretty severe ankle sprain," per Wyatt D. Wheeler of the Topeka Capital-Journal. Peterson was listed as questionable for the Kansas State game.
Peterson missed seven non-conference games this year with a hamstring injury. He played the next four games but then missed two contests with cramps.
Leg issues have unfortunately been a recurring problem this year and limited his minutes at times, although that hasn't stopped Peterson from dominating when he's on the court.
Peterson has played all six of Kansas' Big 12 contests to this point, averaging 23.2 points per game. His next opportunity to play will be Saturday, Jan. 31 at home against BYU and fellow freshman superstar AJ Dybantsa.
