Jeremiyah Love's Status Revealed for Cardinals' NFL Preseason Opener vs. Panthers in HOF Game

Arizona Cardinals running back Jeremiyah Love's professional debut will have to wait at least one more week.

Head coach Mike LaFleur announced that Love will not play in the Hall of Fame Game against the Carolina Panthers on Thursday night.

The Cardinals appear like they will hold out most, if not all, of their projected regular-season starters on Thursday night.

It was previously announced that Carson Beck will start at quarterback against Carolina with Jacoby Brissett being held out. Gardner Minshew is also not going to play in the game.

Beck was a third-round pick by the Cardinals in the 2026 draft. He was the third quarterback selected after first-rounders Fernando Mendoza and Ty Simpson.

The Panthers are also going with their backup quarterback Kenny Pickett as the starter.

LaFleur did not confirm who would get the start at running back. Tyler Allgeier, James Conner, Trey Benson, Bam Knight, Evan Hill, and Corey Kiner are the other candidates on the Cardinals roster.

Benson has been dealing with a knee injury that kept him out of practice early in the week before he returned on Tuesday.

The Cardinals made Love the No. 3 overall pick in this year's draft. He is the first running back to be taken in the top three since Saquon Barkley went second in 2018.

Despite his draft pedigree, Love was listed as the No. 2 back on Arizona's first preseason depth chart released on Sunday behind Allgeier.

Regardless of what order the Cardinals have their running backs listed right now, it's safe to assume Love is going to get plenty of touches during his rookie season.

Since the Cardinals are playing in the Hall of Fame Game, their preseason schedule consists of four games instead of three. Their next game will be on Aug. 13 against the Las Vegas Raiders at Allegiant Stadium.

The Cardinals and Panthers will play at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium on Thursday at 8 p.m. ET.
