Dabo Swinney Accuses Ole Miss of Tampering in CFB Transfer Portal, 'We Have a Broken System'
Clemson football head coach Dabo Swinney has accused Ole Miss of tampering with linebacker Luke Ferrelli and made further comments on the NCAA's transfer portal, saying it's a "broken system."
Swinney made his remarks during a Friday press conference.
Ferrelli played his redshirt freshman season last year at Cal, amassing 91 tackles (38 solo). He entered the transfer portal, signed with Clemson on Jan. 6 and even started taking classes there. However, 16 days later, it was announced that Ferrelli went back into the transfer portal and signed with Ole Miss.
Chapel Fowler of The State provided a thorough rundown of Swinney's remarks from his side of what went down.
Swinney wasn't shy about accusing Ole Miss of "blatant tampering" and said there is a "broken system" with "no consequences for tampering."
He also called for "accountability" and said that other coaches have spoken to him about similar examples of tampering.
Numerous people praised Swinney for bringing the accusations to light and calling out the transfer portal's problems.
He also notably supported a model that would call college athletes "employees."
Obviously, there's a lot to this story, both in terms of what reportedly happened between Clemson and Ole Miss and the larger issues they represent, and we've probably just seen the tip of the iceberg for all as college football continues to figure out how the best way to go about business in the NIL era.
