Tim Tebow Responds to Being Called 'Mr. Tebow' by Fernando Mendoza in Video, 'Come on Man'
Former University of Florida and Denver Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow joked Tuesday about Indiana quarterback Fernando Mendoza referring to him as "Mr. Tebow."
After Mendoza led Indiana to its first-ever national championship in college football on Monday night, he had a discussion with Scott Van Pelt on ESPN's SportsCenter regarding his relationship with Tebow:
Mendoza noted that Tebow has been a mentor of his and that he was in contact with Tebow prior to the College Football Playoff National Championship Game in order to pick his brain since Tebow played in two national title games.
After Mendoza called Tebow "Mr. Tebow" a couple of times, Van Pelt jokingly noted that Mendoza could call him Tim, which got a laugh out of Mendoza and prompted him to make it a bit less formal.
In response to video of Mendoza's interview, Tebow had a humorous response on X, writing, "Come on man... Mr. Tebow is my dad."
Tebow also congratulated Mendoza, who completed one of the greatest seasons by a quarterback in college football history with a Heisman Trophy, a national title and a perfect 16-0 record.
Many parallels have been drawn between Mendoza and Tebow this season due to the combination of their play and leadership, as well as the respectful way in which they carry themselves.
All of that translated to collegiate success for both Mendoza and Tebow, but the question now is whether Mendoza can also be a top performer at the NFL level, which is something Tebow was unable to achieve.
Mendoza is in line to potentially go first overall in the 2026 NFL draft to the Las Vegas Raiders, and while Tebow was not a first overall pick, he was a first-rounder who was taken with designs on being a franchise quarterback, so there is likely plenty more advice that he can share with Mendoza moving forward.
