Wilson Hopes to Be Ready for Spring Training After Elbow Surgery
Thursday, Aug. 13
Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times reported Wilson will undergo cleanup surgery on his injured elbow and hopes to be ready to go for spring training.
On Aug. 1, Wilson said he believes he'll be able to pitch effectively next season after surgery, according to Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times. Alden Gonzalez of MLB.com revealed the pitcher had doubts about pitching again this season.
DiGiovanna provided information on Wilson's MRI results:
Elbow issues have lingered for Wilson this season. Gonzalez noted Wilson had "a lot of fluid" drained from his elbow earlier in the year.
The Angels announced right-hander Drew Rucinski would come up from Triple-A Salt Lake to take the vacant spot on the 25-man roster.
Wilson was enjoying a bounce-back season with a 3.89 ERA and 1.24 WHIP in 21 starts. He posted a 4.51 ERA last season, the highest of his career since becoming a starter.
With Jered Weaver recently back from the disabled list, the Angels shouldn't lose much in terms of production in the rotation.
The Angels had a logjam in the rotation, but with Wilson's injury, Matt Shoemaker's spot is safe for the rest of the regular season.
