Tony Romo Responds to Fan Criticism of His Broadcasts, Says He Was Sick for Bills vs. Jaguars
Former NFL quarterback Tony Romo has polarized fans as an in-game analyst for CBS, but he revealed that he experienced the equivalent of "playing hurt" during his most recent broadcast.
While speaking with SiriusXM's Adam Schein on Schein on Sports on Wednesday morning, Romo admitted that he was under the weather while calling Sunday's AFC Wild Card game between the Buffalo Bills and Jacksonville Jaguars.
"Oh yeah, we had a bunch of guys sick, we were just grinding through it, but you're not gonna miss a playoff game, it's too much fun," Romo said.

However, it seems like Romo could've used an excused absence after he was roundly criticized for his performance on Sunday. Media insider Andrew Marchand of The Athletic declared during his Marchand Sports Media podcast that "the problem for Romo is he doesn't appear as if he does the homework." Marchand also previously reported that CBS attempted to have an "intervention" with Romo in 2023 over his broadcasting issues.
Romo addressed the criticisms he's been facing, telling Schein that he's focused on doing his job to the best of his abilities while acknowledging that he's not perfect.
"I think anytime you're in a position like we are, we're on the air for three-and-a-half hours, you're always trying to do the best you can in everything. There's always gonna be moments where there's great stuff and then other stuff, it's just part of being in your position," Romo said. "You just go back to work and you do a great job. That's the fun part about this, it's sports and it makes it fun. We're just trying to make everyone enjoy the show, learn a little bit and have a great time. So, to me, it's what makes sports amazing, it's fun."
Romo will get a chance for redemption later this week when he's on the call with Jim Nantz for Saturday's AFC Divisional showdown between the Buffalo Bills and Denver Broncos.
