Miami's win continues an ugly trend for teams with a first round bye in the new playoff format:
Beck was efficient in the victory, finishing 19-of-26 for 138 yards and one touchdown without getting picked off. He also rushed for 23 yards.
Miami is now +425 to win the championship after advancing to the semifinals, per DraftKings. Only Indiana (+250) and Georgia (+320) have better odds to win it all.
Fans and pundits were amazed by the performance from Beck and the Hurricanes.
Both offenses started off slow before Miami set the tone in the second quarter, taking a 7-0 lead after Beck found Mark Fletcher Jr. for a nine-yard score.
The Hurricanes doubled their advantage shortly afterwards, as Keionte Scott intercepted a short pass by Julian Sayin and returned it for a touchdown.
Head coach Ryan Day's squad remained scoreless until halftime, marking the first time that Ohio State was shut out in the first half since Dec. 2016.
The Buckeyes started to gain some momentum in the second half, finding the end zone on the first drive of the third quarter with a short touchdown run by Bo Jackson.
Ohio State then pulled to within three points after Sayin connected with Jeremiah Smith for a 14-yard score on fourth down.
Smith finished with a game-high 157 yards and a touchdown on a mere seven catches.
Ohio State forced Miami to punt after Smith's score, but the Buckeyes gained just six yards on their next drive before sending the ball back to the Hurricanes.
Miami subsequently used up most of the remaining game time before Brown's touchdown cemented the victory.
Sayin finished 22-of-35 for 287 yards and one touchdown compared to two interceptions. He was routinely pressured by Miami's defensive front, getting sacked five times.
With Ohio State's loss, teams receiving a first-round bye now own a record of 0-5 under the current playoff format.
Meanwhile, Miami will await the winner of Georgia and Ole Miss in the CFP semifinals.
