NBA Rumors on Andrew Wiggins Amid Heat Trade Buzz, Top Potential Landing Spots
The Miami Heat have "gauged the trade market" for veteran forward Andrew Wiggins, according to HoopsHype's Michael Scotto.
Anthony Chiang of the Miami Herald reported in July the Heat weren't in a rush to move Wiggins and wanted to wait and see how the team performed on the court. With Miami sitting at 14-12 and eighth in the Eastern Conference, the front office might be now more receptive to offers.
Wiggins is averaging 16.6 points while shooting 48.1 percent overall and 38.0 percent from beyond the arc. His best performance so far (31 points, six rebounds, four assists and three steals) came in a losing effort against the Detroit Pistons in November.
In general, the 30-year-old isn't performing like the two-way standout who was instrumental in the Golden State Warriors' 2022 championship run. He's also making $28.2 million and has a $30.2 million player option for 2026-27.
Still, Wiggins has been a productive member of Miami's supporting cast, and he'd be a helpful piece to another contender.
NBA insider Marc Stein reported in September the Los Angeles Lakers could be intrigued "if Miami were to make him available."
The 2021-22 All-Star would provide a boost for a squad that ranks 20th in defensive rating, per NBA.com. Los Angeles is also shooting 35.4 percent on threes, which is 18th. Wiggins could help L.A. kill two birds with one stone.
More recently, NBA insider Jake Fischer reported the Milwaukee Bucks "regularly called about Wiggins" when he was with the Golden State Warriors. Their level of urgency has only risen since then, so returning to that idea makes sense.
Granted, Milwaukee needs more than just Wiggins if it's going to seriously challenge for a title. General manager Jon Horst has limited trade assets, so he can't afford to exhaust them on deals that mostly improve the Bucks around the margins.
