Indians Reportedly Interested in Ozuna
Tuesday, July 28
Clark Spencer of the Miami Herald reported that while the Marlins aren't shopping Ozuna, multiple teams have inquired about him, namely the Cleveland Indians. He then speculated on possible returns for the Marlins were they to ship Ozuna to Cleveland:
Ozuna, 24, is hitting just .249 with four home runs and 26 RBI this season and has spent most of July in Triple-A after being optioned back to the minors earlier this month. It's been a disappointing season for the young outfielder, who hit 23 home runs and 85 RBI in 153 games during his rookie season last year.
But his reluctance to sign a long-term deal with the club has prompted the team's willingness to potentially deal him, per Buster Olney of ESPN, and his age and the power he showcased in his rookie year make him an intriguing option for teams looking to add young power to their lineup.
The Marlins would likely prefer to keep Ozuna in the long term in the hopes that his rookie season wasn't an aberration, but without a long-term commitment from the player, moving on from him makes sense.
