Warriors' Joe Lacob Responds to Angry Fan Email After Loss, Says He's 'Working On It'

Golden State Warriors team governor Joe Lacob responded directly to one fan who emailed him asking to "please do something about this Team."

The fan cited the need for a "real second option" on offense and a natural center in the frontcourt.

"You can't be as frustrated as me," Lacob said back. "I am working on it. It's complicated. Style of play. Coaches desires regarding players. League trends. Jimmy [Butler] is not the problem."

For his part, head coach Steve Kerr downplayed the email leak while speaking with reporters, noting it's "not a big deal."

The Warriors fell back under .500 (13-14) with Sunday's 136-131 loss to the Portland Trail Blazers. The result was particularly dispiriting because Stephen Curry, Jimmy Butler III and Draymond Green all played, with Curry dropping 48 points. And it wasn't enough to put Portland away.

Golden State's current predicament is pretty straightforward, and it was foreseeable years ago. Every dynasty in the NBA ends sooner or later, with a transition to follow. The Warriors continue to kick the can down the road on starting that transitional phase.

Curry, Butler and Green are all in their mid-30s and no longer performing at their respective peaks. Filling out the supporting cast is tricky when Curry and Butler combine to make more than $113 million. Brandin Podziemski, Jonathan Kuminga and Moses Moody, who could've been the foundation for a post-Steph future, are instead balancing their development with the organization's quest for another title.

After acquiring Butler ahead of the 2025 trade deadline, it looked like Golden State discovered an ideal balance between the two generations represented within the squad. Losing to the Minnesota Timberwolves in the second round was a reality check, and the Warriors' current record speaks for itself. They simply aren't a championship contender as presently constructed.

The problem for Lacob and general manager Mike Dunleavy Jr. is that there may not be a silver bullet — not even a blockbuster trade for Giannis Antetokounmpo — that gets them out of this mess.

Having Steph plus another marquee star with even more threadbare depth isn't a formula that will dethrone the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Lacob's willingness to chat respectfully with a fan is admirable, and nobody questions his desire to build a winner. But that doesn't change Golden State's situation.
