Latest News, Rumors on Kalen DeBoer's Alabama Future amid Michigan HC Links
Kalen DeBoer has reassured fans of his commitment to Alabama football ahead of the Crimson Tide's College Football Playoff matchup against Oklahoma.
DeBoer, who is in his second season as Alabama's head coach, issued a statement on Sunday saying that he has "no interest in speaking with anyone else about any other job."
Alabama and DeBoer are also reportedly in ongoing talks about a contract extension, according to On3's Chris Low and Pete Nakos.
The statement from DeBoer comes amid reported interest from other college football teams. The most prominent school linked to DeBoer is Michigan, which fired head coach Sherrone Moore last week after he violated a policy.
Obviously, a program like Michigan will try to land a big name in its coaching search, and DeBoer is one of the top coaches remaining after other coaches either signed extensions or took jobs elsewhere.
DeBoer is already one of the top-paid coaches in college football, earning $10.25 million per year, and it's hard to argue there's a better job in the country than the one in Tuscaloosa. Taking a job with the Wolverines might be tempting, but it seems DeBoer is more than happy with Alabama.
While DeBoer made a public statement about his lack of interest in other jobs, he's apparently been keeping the focus in the locker room on the game ahead.
"He hasn't really said much (about rumors), but that's kind of like our motto: Just focus on what's going on internal, because we've got to play for each other and all we're worried about [is] the people internal," wide receiver Ryan Williams told reporters. "We're not really worried about it if I'm being honest."
Alabama, which snuck into the CFP despite a 10-3 record, will face the No. 8-seeded Sooners on Friday and will look to bounce back from a previous loss to Oklahoma in November.
A win this week would get the Crimson Tide a matchup with top-seeded Indiana in the quarterfinals.
