Knicks' Wu-Tang Clan Song, Music Video Used in 2019 Kevin Durant Recruitment Revealed
The last time star forward Kevin Durant was a free agent, the New York Knicks enlisted the help of an iconic hip-hop group to try to convince him to come to the Big Apple.
During an appearance on Pablo Torre Finds Out, legendary rapper Method Man revealed that the Knicks paid the Wu-Tang Clan to create an original song as part of their recruitment of Durant.
"We really wanted KD to come, and I knew that KD wanted to come to New York," Method Man said. "He just wasn't clear on where he wanted to go."
Torre revealed that his team unearthed the music video on a Wu-Tang Clan message board, and it was titled, "The Multi-Million Dollar Wu-Tang Clan Music Video Meant for One Person." In the video, Method Man was wearing a Knicks jersey with Durant's old No. 35. The end of the music video featured an epilogue in which Wu-Tang Clan members made formal pitches to the 2014 NBA MVP to come to New York.
In 2019, Durant was leaving the Golden State Warriors following an immaculate three-year run that included three straight trips to the NBA Finals and two NBA championships.
However, rather than join the Knicks, Durant chose to sign with New York City's other resident team, the Brooklyn Nets. He remained in Brooklyn until 2023 when he was traded to the Phoenix Suns, who traded him to the Houston Rockets this past offseason.
It's not clear if the music video by the Wu-Tang Clan had any effect on Durant's decision-making process, but Knicks fans will continue to wonder what if the franchise landed the 15-time All-Star.
