Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels previously sent a cease-and-desist letterย to LSU that stemmed from the school's decision to allow Pickett to wear the No. 5 jersey, the same number the Daniels wore during his tenure on the Tigers from 2022-23.
The signal-caller helped the Tigers finish with a 20-7 record during his two seasons at the school, earning Heisman Trophy honors for his 2023 campaign.
Daniels addressed the situation in an Aug. 13 post on hisย Instagram story.
"I have been locked in on training camp and that's been my No. 1 focus," Daniels wrote. "I have a lot of gratitude for my time at LSU and I'm proud of what my teammates and I accomplished there. Obviously there are issues to be worked out between my team and LSU, and my hope is that it will get done privately. My sole personal focus is on Commanders' football. I realize the business of football is unique and I trust this can all be resolved."
Pickett wore No. 3 during his freshman season at LSU in which he amassed 37 tackles and three interceptions.
He changed to No. 5 ahead of his 2026 campaign and confirmed that he has no plans to use a different number.
"I've worn the number my whole life, since I was 4 years old," Pickett said, per ESPN'sย Mark Schlabach. "It's the number I was promised [by LSU]. I wish Jayden the best. Good player, and he did real good here [at LSU]. So that's all."
As for Fournette, he wore No. 7 while racking up 4,356 all-purpose yards and 41 total touchdowns in 32 games at LSU from 2014-16.
The No. 7 jersey is anย important numberย for the Tigers, as it's usually presented to top playmakers that can also lead by example.
Fournette was back in Baton Rouge to honor linebackerย Whit Weeksย and tight endย Trey'Dez Green, who will both wear No. 7 for LSU in 2026.
Daniels and Pickett have yet to find common ground regarding their shared number, though.
