Is Karl-Anthony Towns Open to Knicks Contract Extension? NBA Star Talks Future in NY

Andrew PetersDec 2, 2025

Karl-Anthony Towns is only in his second season with the New York Knicks, but the star big man is already looking forward to his future with the franchise.

When asked whether he wants to sign a contract extension with the Knicks, Towns gave a resounding yes.

"Hell yeah, hell yeah. I want to stay here," Towns said, per the New York Post's Stefan Bondy. "Obviously get a chance to be home, see my family. It means more than the money, you know.

"So just to be able to be here with the fans, be with the family. It means a lot. I would like it to continue."

Towns has two years and about $110 million remaining on the four-year, $220.4 million contract he signed as a member of the Minnesota Timberwolves. ESPN's Brian Windhorst reported before the season that Towns and the Knicks have "no urgency" to get a new deal sorted out since he still has plenty of time left on his current contract.

Towns was eligible to add two years and $150 million onto his current deal over the offseason, Bondy noted, but the lack of an extension hasn't impacted relations between he and the front office.

"Me, (team president Leon Rose) and (senior VP of basketball operations Gersson Rosas) and everyone, we're great," Towns said. "I'll go have lunch with them right now. We're good."

Towns will once again be eligible for an extension next offseason.

The addition of Towns has already been a worthwhile one for the Knicks. The five-time All-Star put up 24.4 points and 12.8 boards per game last season, helping lead New York to its first conference finals appearance since 2000.

This year, Towns is averaging 21.7 points and 11.9 rebounds per game. He's been slightly inefficient, shooting 44.9 percent from the field and 32.7 percent from deep, but he still has time to level out those numbers as the year goes on.

The Knicks have had a decent 13-6 start to the season, winning their last four games to take control of second place in the Eastern Conference standings.
