Who Could Replace Lane Kiffin at Ole Miss if HC Exits for LSU? Report Links Candidates
With Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin's future at the school still up in the air, the Rebels will have several options available if they need to eventually replace him.
According to Yahoo Sports' Ross Dellenger, Ole Miss athletic director Keith Carter has already started engaging with possible candidates including Tulane head coach Jon Sumrall and USF head coach Alex Golesh.
LSU officials "believe they hold Kiffin's commitment" to be the school's next head coach despite his desire to continue leading the Rebels during their upcoming postseason run delaying the move, per Dellenger.
Florida was also reportedly in the mix for Kiffin as his long-term future at Ole Miss became uncertain, but eventually focused on other options.
Once such target could become an issue for the Rebels' replacement plan, as Mark Long of the Associated Press reported Friday that the Gators were also pursuing Sumrall as their next head coach.
Sumrall owns a 41-11 college coaching record across four combined seasons with Troy and Tulane. He's helped lead the Green Wave to a record of 18-7 during his two years at the school, including a 9-2 mark in 2025.
Tulane sat at No. 24 in the latest College Football Playoff rankings.
Sumrall's history with Ole Miss could factor into his decision, as he previously served as the Rebels' linebackers coach in 2018.
As for Golesh, he's reportedly a candidate for Florida's vacancy as well.
He's in the midst of his third season patrolling the sidelines for the Bulls, leading them to bowl game wins in each of his first two years with the program.
USF sits at 8-3 this season, boasting the No. 5 scoring offense in the country by averaging 42.2 points per game.
