Bill Belichick Reveals What He's Learned About College Football in 1st Season with UNC
Bill Belichick's first year coaching college football at UNC has not been as successful as he'd hoped, but he's managed to pick up a few lessons along the way.
ESPN's Tim Keown questioned Belichick about what he's learned in his first foray into the collegiate ranks, which includes adjusting to an ever-changing landscape of player movement through the transfer portal.
"I try to be as honest as I can about our program," Belichick responded in an email. "We want student-athletes to come here who want to work hard every single day and strive to be their best to help the team be successful, so I would not do anything differently than we have in the past."
The Tar Heels fell to 4-7 following this past Saturday's 32-25 loss to longtime rival Duke. Keown noted that a win over NC State in the regular-season finale could get UNC into a bowl game "on the virtue of their Academic Progress Rate (APR) if there are not enough six-win teams to fill out the bowl schedule."
Belichick has been rumored to be one-and-done with the Tar Heels, but he's maintained his commitment to the program.
The 73-year-old can build some optimism for next year if UNC rises to the occasion against a 6-5 NC State squad on Saturday.
