Ole Miss QB Trinidad Chambliss Posts Message to Fans amid Latest Lane Kiffin Rumors
Ahead of Ole Miss' rivalry matchup with Mississippi State this week, quarterback Trinidad Chambliss assured fans that the Rebels are focused on the game and nothing else.
Amid rumors about Lane Kiffin's possible departure, Chambliss said Ole Miss is "fully trusting Coach Kiffin's leadership."
Ole Miss is currently ranked No. 6 in the College Football Playoff Poll at 10-1 and is still in the mix to make the SEC championship game. Fumbling what should be a manageable game against Mississippi State would completely change the course of the Rebels' season.
For most teams in Ole Miss' position, the storyline would be the pursuit of a national championship, but that isn't the case for the Rebels.
Florida and LSU are both looking for their next head coach, and Kiffin has been the name to watch in both searches. Yahoo Sports' Ross Dellenger reported last week that LSU executives and administrators have discussed a possible seven-year, $90 million deal for Kiffin, along with "significant NIL-related roster investments exceeding $25 million."
Kiffin declined to answer a question about whether he had met with Louisiana governor Jeff Landry regarding the LSU vacancy last week and said he's "not speaking on other jobs."
Florida reportedly met with some of Kiffin's representatives last week, and the Gators reportedly are prepared to offer at least $13 million a year.
The Athletic's Stewart Mandel reported last week that Ole Miss gave Kiffin an "ultimatum" to make his decision before Friday's Egg Bowl, though Kiffin later denied that report.
Ole Miss athletic director Keith Carver revealed Friday that Kiffin is set to make an announcement about his future on Saturday, once the Rebels' regular season has concluded.
Kiffin, who is in his sixth season with the Rebels, is already one of the most successful coaches in program history, winning 10 or more games in four of his six seasons. A win on Friday would give Ole Miss its first 11-win regular season in school history.
While Kiffin has the chance to further his legacy by competing for a national championship, he could also have the chance to be college football's highest-paid coach elsewhere.
It's impossible to ignore Kiffin's looming decision, but Chambliss and the Rebels will do their best to keep the focus on the Bulldogs this week.
