Taylyn Hadley Nov 22, 2025

The Duke Blue Devils handed Bill Belichick and the North Carolina Tar Heels a 32-25 loss in Chapel Hill, marking Belichick's seventh defeat of the season.

The rivalry loss dropped UNC to 4-7 overall and 2-5 in ACC play, putting them on pace for their fewest wins in a season since 2018.

Fans criticized Belichick and the Tar Heels following the defeat, which cemented a losing record and ended any postseason hopes.

After trailing 17-10 at halftime, UNC remained competitive, entering the fourth quarter down 24-18. The Tar Heels briefly took their first lead since the opening quarter at 25-24 and forced a key stop on downs but failed to capitalize.

Duke responded with a successful fake field goal to set up scoring position, reclaim the lead, and their defense sealed the road victory with a clutch third-and-seven quarterback sack.

In the loss, Gio Lopez threw for 204 yards, completing 21-of-27 passes, and accounted for two touchdowns—one passing and one rushing.

UNC will head to NC State next Saturday for its final game of the season
