Deion Sanders Says He Hasn't 'Forgotten How to Coach' Amid Colorado's 3-7 Record
Deion Sanders defended his coaching ability as Colorado attempts to navigate through its disappointing 2025 season.
"I haven't forgotten how to coach in a year," Sanders told reporters Tuesday (17:45 mark). "A lot of these wonderful coaches out there that's not winning this season, they haven't forgotten how to coach in a year. We did some things that we shouldn't have done. That's on us.
After wrapping up a 9-4 finish in 2024, the Buffaloes currently sit at 3-7 this year.
Sanders was confident that he'd be able to help the Buffaloes get back on track, though.
"You've got the right man," Sanders said Tuesday, per ESPN's Adam Rittenberg. "I promise you, you do. And I'm going to prove that to you. Just give me an opportunity and a little more time, and I'm going to prove that to you."
His job security doesn't appear to be in any immediate jeopardy, as Colorado athletic director Rick George wrote that the coach's "seat is not hot" in a recent post on X.
The Buffaloes have struggled to make up for key departures from their 2024 squad including quarterback Shedeur Sanders and two-way standout Travis Hunter, who took home Heisman Trophy honors during his final year at the school.
Colorado has tried multiple options under center this year, with Kaidon Salter, Ryan Staub and Julian Lewis all receiving starts. Lewis has shown promise recently, finishing 22-of-35 for 299 yards and two touchdowns without getting picked off during the Buffaloes' 29-22 loss to West Virginia on Nov. 8.
Colorado has still won just one of its past six games, with all five losses coming against Big 12 foes.
The Buffaloes will close out the 2025 regular season against Arizona State and Kansas State.
