Where Should Pitt Be Ranked in CFB Playoff Bracket After Loss to Notre Dame?
No. 22 Pittsburgh suffered a costly 37–15 loss at home to No. 9 Notre Dame on Saturday, a defeat that is expected to deal a major blow to its College Football Playoff hopes.
Despite the loss, Pitt remains in a first-place ACC tie with Georgia Tech, Virginia and SMU at 5-1 in conference play, but the Panthers dropped to 7-3 overall after rising two spots in the latest CFP bracket rankings.
The defeat also snaps their five-game winning streak. Pitt had only just cracked the top 25 during its surge, and Saturday's setback is unlikely to help their standing.
With four teams still holding one loss in the ACC, the Panthers' path to the ACC championship game — and a potential playoff berth — remains open but narrow. Pitt would need SMU to drop another game, and the winner of the Duke–Virginia matchup to take another loss moving forward.
It is likely Pitt will fall out of the top 25 moving forward after the loss.
Pitt will close its season against first-place ACC contender No. 16 Georgia Tech in a decisive matchup, followed by No. 15 Miami, which sits at 3-2 in conference play.
