BYU at Texas Tech Preview

Texas Tech have the fifth-best offense in the nation, accumulating 492.3 yards per game and a defense that ranks tenth in the country, allowing 271.3 yards and just 13.2 points. The Red Raiders rank 11th in sacks, making them one of the best pass-rushing teams in the sport.

They are a well-rounded team looking to seize control of the Big 12 conference and knock off their toughest competition in doing so Saturday night at Jones AT&T Stadium in Lubbock.

It will not be easy.

The BYU Cougars are 8-0 this season and 19-2 under head coach Kalani Sitake. They are ballhawks on defense, ranked seventh in the nation in interceptions. Offensively, the away team is quarterbacked by Bear Bachmeier, who stepped up amid the team losing its original starter and has played superbly.

Bachmeier has completed 59.1 percent of his passes for 1,693, 11 touchdowns, and just three interceptions while carrying 94 times for 408 yards and nine rushing TDs.

BYU will be able to move the ball, and may find success defensively against a Texas Tech offense that has been fighting the injury bug. Still, the hometown crowd, a high-stakes game, and a team that is just better on all sides of the ball than their opponent should mean the Red Riders secure the win and a trip up the rankings.

Prediction: Texas Tech wins in a close game
