New NBA Rumors Update Jalen Duren's Media Day Status Amid Pistons Contract Talks

The ongoing contract dispute between the Detroit Pistons and restricted free agent Jalen Duren is expected to continue into Monday's media day.

The Athletic's Sam Amick and Hunter Patterson reported that league sources said Duren is "planning on steering clear of the event because of unresolved contract negotiations."

The sources added that Duren "considered visiting the team's facility as a show of support to teammates and the franchise," but the choice to skip Monday's media day "would be the latest sign of acrimony in these long-lasting negotiations."

Duren has until Thursday to decide whether to accept a one-year, $9.6 million qualifying offer, which would allow him to become an unrestricted free agent next offseason. He was eligible for a five-year, $287 million deal, but after the lack of progress in contract discussions, he skipped multiple team summer activities while spending most of this offseason away from Detroit.

Amick and Patterson noted that Duren skipping media day "would be a strong indication that he'll likely miss the beginning of training camp as well." The Pistons begin training camp on Tuesday before playing their first preseason game against the Phoenix Suns on Oct. 5.
