Gaskins is listed at 6'8'' out of Christopher Columbus high school in Miami, Florida. He is ranked as the No. 4 power forward and No. 16 national prospect by the 247Sports composite ratings.
He chose the Hurricanes over his other top choices of Florida and Texas A&M.
Gaskins averaged 15.7 points, 7.2 rebounds and 2.1 assists in 15 games, shooting 41.3 percent from the field and 23.3 percent from deep, while playing for Nightrydas on the EYBL circuit this year.
He then averaged 20 points per game (54.5 percent shooting from the field, 35.7 percent from deep) during Nike's Peach Jam in July.
247Sports director of scouting Adam Finkelstein described Gaskins in July as "a long, strong, and physical four-man who defends, rebounds, and is continuing to develop his offensive game."
Gaskins' commitment comes six months after Lucas hired Gaskins' former high school head coach, Andrew Moran, as an assistant coach and director of player development.
Formerly an associate head coach for Duke, Lucas signed a five-year deal with the Hurricanes ahead of the 2025-26 season. Athletic director Dan Radakovich described Lucas at the time as a "relentless recruiter and proven talent developer."
In addition to serving as a backcourt specialist and defensive coordinator at Duke, Lucas is credited by 247Sports with having recruited top prospects including No. 1 2024 NBA draft pick Cooper Flagg and potential top 2026 pick Cameron Boozer to join the Blue Devils.
Miami will now hope the addition of Gaskins helps attract other top prospects to Lucas' program as the Hurricanes look to build a similarly star-powered 2026 class.
