Sam Coffey added a third late in the contest to put the match away.
This was a fairly dominant showing from the USWNT, which held 50.7 percent of possession, outshot Portugal 10-4 (3-1 on goal) and held a 4-2 advantage on corners. It didn't always look as though it might go that way, as Jéssica Silva equalized for Portugal just five minutes in after Moultrie's first-minute opener.
But the USWNT saw out the game out from there, with Moultrie the hero:
It was a memorable evening on a number of fronts. Before the game, legendary goalkeeper Alyssa Naeher was honored by the USWNT after she retired from international football in December.
"I was able to do everything that I had set out to do—and then some," Naeher said before the match regarding her international career. "Honestly, it far exceeded my expectations, what I've been fortunate enough to be a part of. It just felt like the right time."
Moultrie's brace also came at the right time for the USWNT as they exacted some revenge on Portugal. The Americans will next be in action on Wednesday against New Zealand.
