An update on the injury that Texas quarterback Arch Manning suffered during the Longhorns' 45-38 victory over Mississippi State was provided by coach Steve Sarkisian on Monday.

Sarkisian revealed, via ESPN's Pete Thamel, Manning is in concussion protocol and did not practice on Monday.

It's uncertain if Manning will be cleared in time for Texas' upcoming matchup with No. 9 Vanderbilt on Saturday.

ESPN's Mark Schlabach reported on Saturday that Manning suffered a concussion after he was tackled while attempting to scramble up the middle of the field in overtime of the contest. He remained in the medical tent as the Longhorns completed the comeback victory.

Backup quarterback Matthew Caldwell entered the game and found Emmett Mosley V for a 10-yard touchdown, sealing the final result.

Manning was still a key contributor in the win, finishing 29-of-46 for 346 yards and three touchdowns compared to one interception. He also picked up a score on the ground.

Texas trailed 31-14 heading into the fourth quarter, but outscored Mississippi State 24-7 over the final 15 minutes of action to send the contest to overtime. It was a crucial win for a Longhorns squad looking to climb back up the SEC standings, as a loss would have dropped them to 2-2 against conference foes.

The 21-year-old is currently in his first year as a full-time starter, displaying promising signs as well as some room for improvement. He's completed 60.9 percent of his passes for 1,795 yards and 15 touchdowns while getting picked off six times, rushing for 199 yards and six scores.

If Manning is unable to suit up against the Commodores, Longhorns head coach Steve Sarkisian will likely turn to Caldwell under center once again.
