5-Star UConn Freshman Braylon Mullins Out Approximately 6 Weeks with Ankle Injury
Five-star UConn freshman Braylon Mullins is expected to miss "approximately six weeks" after suffering an ankle injury in practice, according to CBS Sports' Matt Norlander.
Expectations are high for Mullins ahead of his first season with the Huskies, as he was listed as the No. 15 overall prospect and No. 4 shooting guard in the 2025 recruiting class (via 247Sports' composite rankings).
He committed to UConn in Oct. 2024 after receiving offers from schools such as Alabama, Duke, Kansas, Kentucky, Indiana, Michigan, North Carolina and Tennessee.
Mullins is coming off an impressive senior season at Greenfield-Central High School, averaging 32.9 points, 7.2 rebounds, 4.2 assists and 3.7 steals per game while shooting over 47 percent from behind the arc.
He was named 2025 Indiana Mr. Basketball and was selected to play in the McDonald's All American Game.
Huskies head coach Dan Hurley praised Mullins' shooting prowess earlier in the offseason.
"Braylon, the shooting is the first thing that stands out," Hurley said in July (h/t SI.com's Tommy Wild). "You know, as well as some shot-making that don't involve just threes. The fact that he can make them off the dribble too and shoot them from deep."
If Mullins were to be sidelined for exactly six weeks before returning, he'd miss UConn's first nine games of the regular season. He could potentially make his debut during a matchup with No. 3 Florida on Dec. 9.
Until Mullins is able to suit up, Silas Demary Jr. and Malachi Smith are candidates to receive extended playing time in Hurley's rotation.
