Billy Napier's Top Landing Spots After Reportedly Being Fired by Florida
Florida head coach Billy Napier reportedly will be searching for a new job.
The Athletic's Chris Vianni reported on Sunday that Napier was fired amid the Gators' 3-4 start to the season.
After becoming the latest big-name coach to hit the open market, Napier will likely have his fair share of suitors. Let's take a look at some of his top landing spots.
Penn State

After firing head coach James Franklin last week, Penn State failed to right the ship in a 25-24 loss to Iowa on Saturday, extending its losing streak to four straight games.
The Nittany Lions could try to usher in a new era by hiring Napier as their next head coach. After spending the last three and a half seasons in the SEC, he would have no problems navigating the Big Ten.
Penn State has lost all four of its conference games this season. Napier has proven to be able to have his team well-prepared for conference opponents, as evidenced by Florida's 29-21 upset win over then-No. 9 Texas earlier this year.
Taking over the Nittany Lions would surely be a pressure-filled job, but Napier would be hailed as a savior if he rises to the challenge and turns the program around.
UAB

If Napier wants to avoid the bright lights of Power Five conferences in his next job, he could be a viable option for a promising UAB team.
The Blazers fired head coach Trent Dilfer last week amid a three-game losing streak. Despite the change at the helm, the team rose to the occasion with a 31-24 win on Saturday over a Memphis squad that had earned the No. 22 ranking after starting the season with a 6-0 record.
Before joining Florida ahead of the 2022 season, Napier made a name for himself by turning around Louisiana and leading the program to back-to-back Sun Belt championships in 2020 and 2021.
Perhaps a smaller school would be more suitable for Napier after his struggles at Florida, so UAB should make a strong push to land the 46-year-old in its head coaching search.
UNC

Despite Bill Belichick affirming his commitment to UNC, it won't be easy to silence the murmurs about his future with the team amid its continued struggles.
The Tar Heels fell to 2-4 this season with a 21-18 loss to Cal on Saturday, which is far from what they expected when they hired Belichick as head coach. Despite being one of the greatest NFL coaches of all time, the 73-year-old has not fared well in his first try at coaching college football.
If UNC makes a major change at the end of this season, Napier should be in the running to be Belichick's replacement. While there would be other candidates for such a high-profile opening, Napier's experience could put him ahead of the pack.
It would be a surprising turn of events for the Tar Heels to part ways with Belichick, but moving on could be the best option for both parties. Napier would be a strong choice to lead the program after a brief tenure with Belichick.
