LeBron James Rips 'Hot Take Culture' After JJ Redick Analyzes Lakers Defense in Video
Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James clearly takes basketball seriously and is able to understand the game at a high level. In turn, he's not a fan of fans and media who are quick to give a hot take.
James praised a recent ESPN segment in which Tim Legler went in-depth on the Lakers' defense with head coach JJ Redick.
"Love to see this," James wrote. "Hot take culture so tired."
In the era of social media, it's easy for fans and even the media to form their opinions from just watching a few highlights and looking at stats. It's obviously difficult for the average fan to watch 82 games a year and analyze each play, but James is clearly hoping the tides will shift towards looking beyond just the box scores and highlights.
This isn't the first time James has taken a shot at hot take culture. During an episode of his podcast, Mind the Game, James called out his critics who say he has "no bag."
"I see it all the time, I'll be on social media and it's like 'LeBron has no bag,' James said. "'LeBron has no bag' and I'm sitting here with like 50 billion points. Just play the game the right way, and I hope that our younger generation doesn't get swamped by saying, 'I need a bag.' Work on your game, know what you're going to be good at in order to help the team and prove the next year to be a better player."
Hot take culture isn't going away anytime soon, as fans post their opinions on social media and sports talk show hosts continue their debates. With James and other players starting podcasts and other forms of media where they go a bit more in-depth about basketball, perhaps more fans will start to look at the game the way James hopes they will.
James, Redick and the Lakers won't be safe from hot take culture this season, though. Expectations are understandably high in Los Angeles this year, and the team will face its fair share of criticism over just about everything.
