Warren Moon Reportedly Called Titans' Cam Ward After 'We Ass' Remark, Gave QB Advice

Tennessee Titans rookie quarterback Cam Ward's blunt assessment of the state of his team earlier this year reportedly drew a response from a franchise legend.

Ward famously turned heads after the Titans fell to 0-4 by telling reporters, "If we keeping it a buck right now, we ass." According to Jonathan Jones of CBS Sports, the comment warranted a call from Pro Football Hall of Famer Warren Moon, the legendary Oilers quarterback who is now an ambassador for the Titans and gave his blessing for Ward to wear his No. 1 jersey before the season.

"During the call Moon told Ward that's not the way he should be representing the franchise, according to a source," Jones reported.

While Ward's frustrations with Tennessee's struggles were understandable, it's not the first time he directed a criticism toward his own team. During training camp, he called the team's offense "mid," per Jones.

Ward's unenthusiastic evaluation likely played a part in the ousting of Titans head coach Brian Callahan, who was fired on Monday just six games into his second year at the helm after the team fell to 1-5 with a 20-10 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 6. Senior offensive assistant Mike McCoy was named the interim head coach.

The coaching change could be enough for Ward to change his view of the Titans, but things won't get easier for Tennessee anytime soon.

On Sunday, the Titans will host the 4-2 New England Patriots, who are ranked first in the AFC East. The game will be a reunion for former Tennessee head coach Mike Vrabel, who was fired after the 2023 season and is in his first year in New England.
