Dylan Raiola Says Nebraska's Matt Rhule 'Ain't Going Nowhere' Amid Penn State Rumors
Nebraska quarterback Dylan Raiola said Cornhuskers head coach Matt Rhule is staying put amid rumors connecting him to the open Penn State job after the school fired head coach James Franklin on Sunday.
After PSU parted ways with Franklin, The Athletic's Bruce Feldman called Rhule and Indiana head coach Curt Cignetti the "two obvious front-runners" for the Penn State job.
Rhule is a Penn State alum and played football there from 1994 to 1997. He also began his coaching career as a volunteer assistant in State College in 1998.
There's also another connection between Rhule and Penn State's athletic director, Pat Kraft. The two were together at Temple from 2013-2016, when Kraft served as deputy AD in 2013-2014 and AD from 2015-2020.
"Matt loves Pat and Pat loves Matt," an industry source said to Feldman.
Rhule was asked about the Penn State opening during a Monday press conference, per 10/11 News. He acknowledged his love for the school but also reiterated his commitment to Nebraska.
"I love Penn State. Met my wife there, my alma mater, fan since I was born," Rhule said. "I think probably had a Penn State shirt when I was born."
Rhule added: "[Nebraska AD Troy Dannen] and I are in constant, constant, constant communication about this program and where we're headed. I came here for two reasons. I love the community here and wanted to live here. And I love it here. And I wanted to rebuild Nebraska football."
Rhule is doing a great job rebuilding Nebraska football. In the seven years before his arrival, the Cornhuskers went 23-45.
Rhule led Nebraska to a 5-7 record in year one before going 7-6 in year two. Nebraska is off to a 5-1 start and a No. 25 ranking in the Associated Press poll in 2025. The Cornhuskers will look to keep their winning ways going on Friday when they visit Minnesota.
