Warriors Reportedly Want 'Maximum Flexibility' for When Giannis, Jokic Could Be FAs
The Golden State Warriors are hoping to maximize the window of title contention while stars Stephen Curry, Draymond Green and Jimmy Butler are on the roster, but it sounds like the team already has an eye on the future.
The Athletic's Sam Amick reported that the Warriors "want to maintain maximum flexibility" for the 2027 offseason, as they are aware that Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo and Denver Nuggets star Nikola Jokić could opt out of their respective contracts to test the free-agent market at that time.
The contracts for Golden State's star trio all come off the books by the summer of 2027. Amick noted that the Warriors currently "only have [Moses] Moody's $13.4 million and [Buddy] Hield's $10 million player option on the books by then."

The plans for 2027 are also factoring into Golden State's negotiations with restricted free agent Jonathan Kuminga, as the team has been pushing for a two-year deal, while the 22-year-old forward is seeking more security.
Amick pointed out that the Warriors "are hardly alone on this star-hunting front," as the Los Angeles Lakers and Los Angeles Clippers both set themselves up for similar pursuits two years from now. It sounds like the 2027 offseason could be one of the most exciting free-agent frenzies in recent memory.
