Michael Vick Says 'Primary Focus' Is on Norfolk State amid Virginia Tech HC Rumors
Legendary quarterback Michael Vick is embarking on his first year as head coach at Norfolk State, and he's in no rush to set himself up for a return to his alma mater.
Pete Nakos of On3.com reported that "it would not surprise anybody in the industry" if Vick emerges as "a serious name" in future head coaching searches by Virginia Tech. However, Vick dismissed the notion that he's looking to join the Hokies anytime soon, saying his "primary focus" is Norfolk State:

The report of Virginia Tech's expected future interest in Vick comes just two days after the team fired head coach Brent Pry three games into his fourth season with the program. The Hokies are 0-3 and have surrendered over 40 points in each of the last two games.
Vick has coached Norfolk State to a 1-2 record to start the season. According to Nakos, sources said that some Virginia Tech boosters have "pushed Vick to get coaching experience so he could take the job in Blacksburg down the road." While it's unlikely that he will be a candidate for the position after his first year as a head coach, the 45-year-old could be the favorite to lead the Hokies down the line.
Before his illustrious NFL career, Vick starred at Virginia Tech from 1998 to 2000 and made an immediate impact when he stepped onto the field. As a redshirt freshman in 1999, Vick led the Hokies to an 11-0 record in the regular season and a trip to the BCS national championship game, where they lost to Florida State. He was named Big East Rookie of the Year, Big East Offensive Player of the Year and a first-team All-American. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame as part of the 2025 class.
For now, former offensive coordinator Philip Montgomery will serve as interim coach for Virginia Tech. The Hokies will look to get back on track when they host Wofford (0-3) on Saturday.
