Latest Russell Westbrook Rumors, Contract Buzz amid Potential Kings Interest
Russell Westbrook remains a free agent with the 2025-26 NBA season looming, and the Sacramento Kings could be a possible landing spot.
However, NBA insider Jake Fischer provided something of a word of caution when he reported Friday that "There is no indication—yet—that the Kings' decision to release Terence Davis is the first step toward a Russell Westbrook signing in Sacramento. It's too soon to go that far."
Sacramento waived Davis on Wednesday after he appeared in just one game for the team last season.

Moving on from Davis opened up a roster spot and the need for more depth in the backcourt, which makes Westbrook a logical option. The future Hall of Famer has also been connected to the Kings throughout the offseason.
While the 2016-17 MVP and nine-time All-Star is no longer the franchise-altering player who would be a major addition, he is someone who could help anchor the second unit and provide bursts of offense.
Westbrook averaged 13.3 points, 6.1 assists, 4.9 rebounds and 1.4 steals in 27.9 minutes per game last season for the Denver Nuggets. He appeared in 75 games with 36 starts and finished in seventh place in Sixth Man of the Year voting.
Sacramento will still rely on Domantas Sabonis, Zach LaVine and DeMar DeRozan to carry the offense, so Westbrook can play a similar supporting role as he did last season for Denver if he does eventually join the Kings.
But Fischer's report suggests fans shouldn't assume it is automatically a done deal just because Davis is no longer on the roster.
