Ryan Staub Says Sitting Behind Shedeur Sanders 'Really Helped Me' After Colorado Win
Colorado quarterback Ryan Staub gave credit to former Buffaloes standout Shedeur Sanders after stepping up during the team's 31-7 win over Delaware on Saturday.
"I've been blessed to be able to sit behind him for two years," Staub told reporters following the game (31:15 mark). "I got to see everything that he did. The way he does things day in and day out, the way he sees stuff in the film room, I've been right there behind it. Really just tried to take as much as I can from him because he's going to have an amazing career, he's an amazing quarterback. The past couple of years sitting behind him has really helped me."
Staub entered Saturday's action as the Buffaloes' third-string signal-caller, but was inserted into the game late in the second quarter after fellow passers Kaidon Salter and Julian Lewis took the field.
Staub made the most of his opportunity, leading Colorado on three scoring drives. He finished 7-of-10 for 157 yards and two touchdowns without tossing an interception, helping the Buffaloes pull away after they only held a three-point lead at the time he was inserted under center.
He also brought out Sanders' signature watch celebration following a touchdown in the third quarter, leading to a response from the Cleveland Browns quarterback.
Staub spent his first two years at Colorado as Sanders' backup, watching him lead the Buffaloes to a 9-4 record in 2024.
Sanders ended his career in Boulder with 7,364 pass yards and 64 touchdowns compared to 13 interceptions in 24 games. His No. 12 jersey was retired by the school in April.
