Ben Simmons Reportedly 'Questioning' Whether to Continue NBA Career amid Knicks Rumors
Ben Simmons is "questioning" whether he wants to continue his NBA career for the 2025-26 season as he continues to navigate through free agency, according to Stefan Bondy of the New York Post.
Simmons has received interest from the New York Knicks and one other team on the open market, per Bondy.
The 29-year-old appeared in 51 combined games with the Brooklyn Nets and Los Angeles Clippers last season.
Simmons averaged 5.0 points, 5.6 rebounds and 0.7 steals in 22.0 minutes per game with both teams while shooting 52.0 percent from the field.
The No. 1 overall pick in the 2016 NBA draft instantly stood out with the Philadelphia 76ers to open his career, winning Rookie of the Year honors before making three consecutive All-Star appearances from 2018-21.
Simmons went on miss the entire 2021-22 season due to a holdout as well as a back injury that eventually required surgery.
He was traded by the 76ers to the Brooklyn Nets in Sept. 2022, but wasn't able to consistently stay on the court. Simmons appeared in just 57 total games across his first two years with Brooklyn and underwent a second procedure on his back near the end of the 2023-24 season.
He started the ensuing year with the Nets, but they later bought him out before he signed with the Clippers.
Simmons remains a free agent while the 2025-26 season draws closer, as the Knicks will open training camp on Sept. 24.
He could wind up in a depth role given the reported interest in him, but his future with the league is in question.
